What I like most about Forest Park is that it has the best of both worlds: big city access with small town charm. The residents of Forest Park comprise all different age groups and are a culturally and economically diverse population.
Recent major renovations to the downtown Madison Street business district has attracted a wide assortment of fine restaurants, pubs, antique stores, bakeries, specialty stores, and entertainment establishments. The Park District of Forest Park boasts one of the areas oldest and best known aquatic centers. It is a very popular gathering place for many people through out the area. There are also several forest preserves featuring bike trails and picnic areas.
Forest Park's Madison Street was recently renovated which really brought out the small town charm. This is the main street for Forest Park where they have parades and celebrations throughout the year.
You will find numerous outdoor cafes and restaurants along Madison Street. You can dine outside under the shade of the umbrellas or order in. Shanahan's is one of my favorites.

The Forest Park park district sponsors baseball and softball leagues which features night games for children and adults.
Here is the public pool which is extremely popular in Forest Park. Life guards are on hand and you can even bring a picnic lunch!
Forest Park also has a water slide. Not reccomended for anyone afraid of a swirling rush!
