With 4.7 square miles family ties are strong in the small industrial town. elevation is 640 feet above sea level and six miles from Oak Park.
Gottleib Memorial Hospital is about 2 miles away in Melrose Park. colleges closest to Franklin Park is Triton College in River Forest and City Colleges of Chicago is about 4 miles away.

Indoor recreation can be found at the Franklin Ice Park! Serving the community for 34 years and counting, The Franklin Ice Park has many classes for children and adult skaters as well as time for leisurly skating. Join a Hockey team and congrats to the skaters and coaches that took first place in the 2007 Ice Skating Institute World Recreational Team Championships in the summer of 2007!
The Franklin Park Independent Library is well over 100 years old and has been at this location on Grand Ave with over 25,000 square feet since the 1980's. The library is currently looking for local artists that would like to hang their work on the library walls. Check out all the children's resources they are hooked up with. They even have a storyteller online!
Franklin Park shares the Chamber of Commerce with the village of Schiller Park. Both have an outstanding industrial and residential community growth in recent years.

History of Franklin Park, Illinois
German farmers settled in the 1840s. By the mid-1870s the Atlantic & Pacific Railroad laid tracks and built a station on Elm Street.
In the early 1890s Franklin, Mr. L. Franklin, a real-estate broker, purchased four farms totaling 600 acres. Another forward thinking explorers who could see the fantastic potential of the acreage. Close to the railroads' intersection he built a community center and named the town Franklin Park (it seems most explorers were quite vain.)
Mr. Franklin was a master marketer and created fine parades with dancers, horses and clowns enticing prospective buyers down La Salle St. in downtown Chicago. Still thinking outside the box, Franklin even offered free train rides to Franklin Park on Sundays.
It was brilliant and soon the Franklin Pavilion on Rose Street was filled with customers receiving free food and beer, listening to speeches with news around the country. They also danced to lively banjo music, and participated in sak races and pie eating contests. Lot sales exceeded a million dollars.
Mr. Franklin offer land parcels to industries in the iron and other manufacturing business. Siegel, Cooper Co. build their factory in 1905. Slavic, Polish and Italian imiigrants worked the factories. World War II brough Douglas Aircraft and the Buick Motors factories to Franklin Park.
Suburban Manufacturing is still present today in Franklin as the small town has easy access to Railroad terminals and Airport cargo zones.
