Oak Park Residents
On Chicago Ave you will find the Frank Lloyd Wright Home and Studio. Renovated to look as it did in 1909, the last year Frank Lloyd Wright and his family lived there, the Wright Home and Studio is true to the architecture that still exists in and around Oak Park. Known more frequently as the Prairie school of architecture, houses like this can be found in the historic districts of Oak Park.
Built in a similar style and designed by Frank Lloyd Wright is the Univty Temple. Located on Lake Street, the Unity Temple is often referred to as the world´s first modern building due to its use of a single material in building.
Among other former Oak Park residents is Ernest Hemingway. You will find the Earnest Hemingway Museum and Birthplace in Oak Park Arts Center. The museum offers temporary and permanent exhibits based on the author´s life. Once you´ve learned more about the history of one of Oak Park´s most celebrated residents, you can walk to the birthplace home. Ernest Hemingway was born on the second floor of this Queen Anne home. He lived there until he was six years old.
In the same neighborhood in Oak Park where Ernest Hemingway spent his teen years you will find the home of Edgar Rice Burroughs.
